Long-term social visa in Singapore (Dependant's Pass)

Dependant's Pass is the main option for long-term dependent visas for foreigners who are spouses and siblings and adopted children of work visa holders such as Employment Pass, Personalized Employment Pass, EntrePass and S Pass holders in Singapore.
Benefits of Dependant's Pass:
  • Gives the right to live in Singapore for the duration of the sponsor visa, meaning the work visa holder
  • Ability to send children to study in local and international schools in Singapore
  • Ability to obtain a work permit when starting a business in Singapore.

Disadvantages of the Dependant's Pass:
  • Does not entitle you to work in Singapore. If you want to work, you need to apply for a work permit (LOC), or get a stand-alone work visa
  • It is a dependent visa - if your sponsor's visa is cancelled, the Dependant's Pass is cancelled with it
  • You cannot sponsor other visas (for example, long-term parental visas)

How to obtain a Dependant's Pass in Singapore
Taking into account that the Dependant's Pass is not an independent visa and can be issued only in connection with a valid work visa, this visa type has serious requirements for the salary level of the sponsor, and also requires proof of family relationship between the applicant and the sponsor. To obtain a Dependant's Pass in Singapore, the applicant and sponsor must meet the following conditions.

Requirements for the applicant
  • To qualify for the Dependant's Pass, the applicant must be:
  • An official spouse.
  • A natural child under 21 years of age, unmarried
  • Legally adopted child who is under 21 and unmarried.

Requirements for Sponsor
To be eligible to apply for a Dependant Pass for family members, the sponsor must meet the following requirements:

If the sponsor is an Employment Pass or S Pass holder, the sponsor must:
  1. Have a valid work visa
  2. Have a salary of at least SGD 6,000 (USD 4,400) to sponsor a spouse and children. This amount must be based solely on the sponsor's salary, total family income is not taken into account
  3. Sponsored by a Singapore-registered company (usually the sponsor's employer).

EntrePass holders:
  1. An EntrePass visa holder may also sponsor dependent visas for his or her family members: spouses, unmarried siblings under 21, disabled children over 21 who are unmarried, and parents of the EntrePass holder. Dependent visas are tied to the EntrePass holder and entitle them to reside in Singapore.
  2. To be eligible for family visas, the EntrePass holder must meet minimum annual business expenditure requirements as well as local hiring requirements. In our EntrePass video, you will find detailed requirements for family visa issuance.

How long will it take to get a Dependant Pass

Each application is reviewed individually by the Department of Labor, based on a wide range of factors, such as financial status of the employer's company, sponsor's salary, education and work experience of the Dependent Visa applicant, etc.

On average, dependent visa issuance in Singapore can take anywhere from three weeks to several months. Be sure to keep in mind that for children under the age of 12, the child vaccination verification procedure can take up to 20 business days and only after that can you apply for a visa.
